This program is designed to impart in-depth knowledge of Population Studies- dynamics of population change along with its linkages with humanities. It is primarily for understanding the interrelationship of population with different social, economic, health and nutrition phenomena. Introduction of Health Economics completes the missing link of the program on Population and Health. This gap is bridged here, considering importance of functioning of health system, healthcare delivery and utilization along with health financing and health insurance. This program is expected to shape scholars interested in Population, Public Health and Health Economics.

Recent policy initiatives of the Union Government have shown a marked shift towards provision of Universal Social Security; like Atal Pension Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna, Ayushman Bharat.

Other ongoing schemes like include National Health Mission (NHM), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) providing benefits to girl child, children under 6 years, mothers and adolescent girls (schemes like Sabala and Kishori Shakti Yojana), Maternal and child health programmes and various Nutrition initiatives.

Conditional cash transfer schemes in the areas of reproductive health, nutrition, immunization and elderly would still preserve their position in population and health at large.  Besides there are regional schemes run by State Governments. Such as certain regional schemes like West Bengal Swasthyasathi Health Insurance Scheme, Hridayam Initiative by Kerala, Arogyasri of Telangana and Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana of Maharashtra

What such developments herald is a paradigm shift from traditional areas of population policy with emphasis on mortality, fertility and birth control towards universal social security and utilization of demographic dividend by protecting and enhancing human capital.
      Program Structure

Number of Courses

Every student has to complete minimum 20 courses (16 Compulsory courses and 4 Elective courses) for completion of the Programe. Students can select some elective courses, after discussing with the Co-ordinator of the Programe and concerned faculty members.

Eligibility Criteria

Admission to this Programe is open to any Bachelor’s degree of a recognised University (recognised by UGC) with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST reserve category candidates) or equivalent grade.

Selection Criteria :Selection of candidates will be on the basis of entrance test. Reservation for candidates will be considered as per GOI norms.
