Policy Research Organization, a Pune-based think tank, and the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics have collaborated over the past four months and co-worked on the annual Budget of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

While we pay a lot of attention to the Union Budget, and while state government budgets are also getting publicity in recent years, the budgets of urban and rural local bodies still go unnoticed. This, despite the fact that most of the economic activity in India is happening in and around urban centres.

Municipal bodies, and specifically large ones such as the Pune Municipal Corporation, spend a lot on the facilities we use daily as citizens. But do we know how much revenue the PMC collects and what are its spending patterns?

The Gokhale Institute and PRO have attempted to do exactly that.

We will officially inaugurate the webpage for the “Simplification of Pune Municipal Budget 2022-23” and explain the concept and need behind the project. The primary objective of this simplification process is to make the local body’s Budget easily accessible to students, academicians and citizens alike.
