Behavioural Economics and Nudging

Behavioral Economics (BE) incorporates insights from other social sciences, mainly psychology and sociology to enhance our understanding of how and why individuals make decisions that, from the perspective of standard economic theory, appear irrational.

These insights can be very useful for policymakers to bring desirable behavioral changes. In words of Richard Thaler, Nobel Prize Winning Economist (2017), “So What’ s a Nudge? A Nudge is some small feature of the environment that attracts our attention and alters our Behaviour.”

Nudging citizens or customers, therefore, has become a standard practice across the globe. The workshop introduces selected BE concepts, details the implementation of BE in policies using interdisciplinary knowledge from experimental economics, and concludes with a career counselling session.
