Theoretical, as well as empirical economics, rely heavily on mathematics and quantitative abilities. Notwithstanding, economics is still largely taught in conceptual terms. To bridge this gap, we think that PhD scholars and recent graduates can hand-hold current students.
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics calls for applications for Tutors who will assist groups of 5 students, and teach them for at least 15 hours a week.
Position: Temporary
Job Description: Fifteen hours per week (time schedule depends on students’ academic schedules) to revise the classroom lessons and/or provide the prerequisite knowledge of the concepts to be taught in the subsequent weeks for quantitative subjects, primarily Mathematics for economics; checking of home assignments; maintaining records of students’ attendance as well as progress and reporting the same to the MA-academic section and the program coordinator. The tutor also needs to attend regular M.Sc. classes (8 hours/week) to understand the classroom lessons.
Qualifications: Completed Master’s in Economics or pursuing PhD program and should have at least one of the following courses in their post-graduation (Basics of Mathematics, Mathematics for Economics, Mathematical Economics)
Desirable skills: Should have speaking fluency in Marathi or Hindi; Should be able to teach mathematical concepts and help students learn those using innovative pedagogies; Should be able to assist course faculty as well as students in subjects like Mathematics, Statistics and computer programming;
Duration: August 2022 to November 2022
Compensation: Monetary benefits in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month
Screening and interview: A demo lecture on a topic of interest in mathematical economics will be followed by an interview with a committee of faculty members.
